Google previewed new Gemini AI features for Google TV devices at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The company first added Gemini to these devices in November of the previous year. The updates enable viewers to explore topics in depth, search and reimagine personal photos and videos using AI, and adjust TV settings through voice commands.

Google plans to deploy the features initially on select TCL televisions, with expansion to other Google TV devices in the coming months. Gemini for Google TV supports natural-language interactions for content discovery. Users can request plot recaps for favorite series, personalized recommendations, or help identifying shows based on descriptions.

For example, viewers might ask for a program that blends two people’s tastes, recall a title from a plot summary or actor name, or inquire about the latest hospital drama. Gemini delivers responses in a visually rich format tailored to the query. This includes combinations of text, imagery, video context, and real-time sports updates when relevant.

Beyond entertainment, the features position the TV as an educational tool. At CES, Google demonstrated how Gemini provides narrated interactive overviews of topics. These simplify complex concepts, and users can pose follow-up questions for deeper exploration.

Gemini integrates with users’ Google Photos libraries. It allows queries for specific people or moments, applies artistic styles to photos and videos, and generates cinematic slideshows from personal media.

A standout capability lets users optimize TV settings via voice without interrupting their viewing. Commands such as “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue” prompt Gemini to make adjustments automatically.

To access the features, Google TV devices must run Android TV OS 14 or higher and maintain an internet connection. Users need a Google account. Availability at launch is restricted to supported languages, countries, and devices.
