TikTok adds Shared Feed and Collections to boost direct messaging

TikTok is introducing new features, Shared Feed and Shared Collections, alongside themed holiday cards, to enhance user interaction and content sharing within the app.

The Shared Feed feature allows users to discover content collectively. This feed, shared through direct messaging, presents a daily curated selection of 15 videos based on TikTok activity. The company describes it as a “new way to discover content together.” Users can invite others to a Shared Feed chat and participants retain the ability to exit at any time. A new dashboard provides viewers access to their Shared Like history and other metrics. This global rollout will occur in the coming months.

Shared Collections function similarly but apply to saved content. This tool enables users to collect, organize, and share groups of videos. TikTok suggests its use for sharing reading lists, local restaurant recommendations, and product selections. To create a Shared Collection, users save a video, form a collection, and dispatch the list via direct message. Both users must follow each other to access these lists. This tool is currently available globally for users over the age of 16.

The platform is also releasing themed holiday cards for direct messaging. These will be available globally later this month.
