Apple plans to introduce vapor-chamber cooling in the next iPad Pro, which will feature the M6 chip. This upgrade aims to enhance cooling and performance, following its implementation in the iPhone 17 Pro models.
The iPad’s larger surface area compared to the iPhone will allow for improved heat dissipation with the vapor-chamber system. This should enable the tablet to handle intensive tasks more effectively, including gaming, video editing, and AI applications.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman suggests Apple may use the vapor-chamber feature to distinguish between different iPad models. The company previously upgraded cooling in the M4-generation iPad Pro by adding a copper heat sink.
Apple draws the vapor-chamber concept from competitors like Samsung and Google, who have used similar systems in their smartphones. Samsung incorporated a liquid-cooling setup in the Galaxy Tab S9 tablet, released in 2023.
Gurman anticipates Apple will adhere to its standard 18-month release cycle. As a result, the M6 iPad Pro with the new vapor-chamber cooling could arrive around 2027.
