Changing the date and time on your Android phone ensures that your device displays the correct information for scheduling, alarms, and apps. This guide will walk you through the process of manually adjusting the date and time on most Android devices, helping you fix any inaccuracies quickly.

Before you start: Ensure you have access to your Android phone’s settings and know the correct date, time, and time zone for your location.

How to manually change date and time on Android

Follow these steps to adjust the date and time settings on your Android device.

  • Open the Settings app on your Android phone, usually found in your app drawer or by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the gear icon.
  • Scroll down and tap System. Note: On some devices, this may be under General Management instead.
  • Select Date and time from the list of options.
  • Toggle off the Automatic date and time switch. This disables network-based syncing and allows manual adjustments.
  • Tap Set date and use the calendar to choose your desired date, then tap OK.
  • Tap Set time and adjust the hour and minute using the spinner or keypad, then tap OK to confirm.
  • Check the Time zone setting. If needed, tap it and select your correct time zone manually; otherwise, it may update automatically based on your location.
  • Optionally, toggle on Automatic date and time again to re-enable network synchronization after making your changes.
Pro tip: If you’re traveling across time zones, enabling automatic time zone detection under the Date and time menu can save you from manual adjustments in the future.

Why accurate time settings matter

Keeping your Android phone’s date and time correct is essential for seamless app functionality and daily productivity. For instance, alarms, calendar events, and notifications rely on precise timing to work as expected. Without it, you might miss important reminders or have scheduling conflicts that disrupt your routine.

Beyond personal use, accurate settings ensure better integration with services like email, cloud syncing, and location-based features. This prevents issues such as delayed messages or incorrect timestamps on photos and files. Ultimately, taking a moment to update these settings helps maintain the reliability of your device in an increasingly connected world.
