OpenAI is developing an AI-powered hiring platform, dubbed the OpenAI Jobs Platform, positioning itself to compete directly with LinkedIn. Fidji Simo, OpenAI CEO of Applications, announced the initiative, stating the platform aims to “use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer.” The service is slated to launch by mid-2026.

The platform will include a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments to access AI talent. This expansion signals OpenAI’s intent to diversify beyond its core consumer offering, ChatGPT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has indicated that Simo will oversee various applications, including the Jobs Platform and potentially a browser and social media app.

The OpenAI Jobs Platform could create direct competition with LinkedIn, a Microsoft-owned company and one of OpenAI’s primary financial backers. LinkedIn has been integrating AI features to improve job candidate matching.

In addition to the Jobs Platform, OpenAI plans to launch certifications for different levels of “AI fluency” through its OpenAI Academy, an online program launched last year. A pilot program for OpenAI Certifications is scheduled for late 2025.

While the potential for AI to disrupt traditional jobs is acknowledged, with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei suggesting AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030, Simo emphasized OpenAI’s role in enabling individuals to become AI-fluent and connecting them with companies requiring these skills. OpenAI believes it can help mitigate potential job displacement by equipping individuals with the necessary skills for the evolving job market.
