The crowdfunding platform Indiegogo is being acquired by Gamefound, a company that specializes in crowdfunding for board games. According to a joint announcement, both the Indiegogo and Gamefound platforms will continue to operate as separate entities. However, Gamefound campaigns will now also be featured on Indiegogo for additional exposure.
As part of the acquisition, Indiegogo is making immediate changes to its fee structure to align with Gamefound’s model. The platform will now charge a flat 5% fee with no additional charges for promotional placements. Indiegogo also plans to adopt Gamefound’s tipping policy, which gives 100% of tips directly to creators, though a specific timeline for this change has not yet been announced.
The stated goal of the acquisition is to integrate Indiegogo’s community of 38 million members with Gamefound’s technology. Following the deal, Gamefound CEO Marcin Świerkot will assume the role of Group CEO, while Julie dePontbriand will remain CEO of Indiegogo.
