All upcoming Warner Bros. releases for 2021 will premiere simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. This groundbreaking move, confirmed by Variety, completely reverses the dismal situation we have experienced this 2020 in terms of film releases, as most have had to be delayed or relegated exclusively to temporary platforms.
The risks for Warner Bros are great, but it certainly puts other majors, such as Disney, Sony or Universal, in a bind, and they should not be slow to respond to this move in one way or another.
Warner’s official statement mentions it as a one-year plan that it is only planned for the 2021 releases such as Dune, Matrix 4, Godzilla vs Kong, Mortal Kombat, The Suicide Squad, Space Jam 2. And from 2022 and onwards it would return to a traditional model of film releases. If the pandemic has already been overcome by then, of course.
Warner’s movie calendar for 2021 includes large blockbusters, many of which had been delayed from 2020 (which in turn delayed movies from 2021 to 2022).

HBO Max will be in Europe in the second half of 2021
HBO Max Global intends to launch its streaming service in Europe during the second half of 2021.
This Christmas, Wonder Woman 1984 will be the “pilot test” a few weeks ago, it was announced that the DC Comics superheroine film, which saw its release date moved up to three times because of the pandemic (it was originally dated for June 2020), would have its final release in December, simultaneously in cinemas where it was possible and on HBO Max, its streaming platform.
Previously, Warner was the first to dare to release one of her big summer productions, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. A “traditional” cinema release, but one that proved to be a financial failure. The urban centers of the United States continued (and continue) with closed theaters.
