Apple is developing a ” Presto ” system that will allow iPhones to be updated wirelessly before they are unboxed. Normally, when buying an unboxed iPhone, you first need to connect to Wi-Fi and update the operating system. This problem will be avoided with the Presto system. The device consists of a silver shelf system that holds the iPhones and performs the update process. Using technologies such as MagSafe, wireless charging, and NFC, the iPhone can be updated even when it’s in the box.

The system will have many advantages. First, it will significantly speed up the installation process. Second, it will mean less technical complexity for users. Third, it will enable a more efficient workflow in Apple Stores.

However, the Presto system also has some disadvantages. First, it requires building and operating a complex system. Second, it may have high costs. Third, it will only be available in Apple Stores.

Apple’s Presto system has software support in iOS 17.2 and is expected to be available in the US in April 2024. Widespread adoption of this system could lead to simplifying the iPhone setup process and significant changes to Apple Stores and the user experience.

Possible impacts of the Presto system

The Presto system can have many implications for Apple and its users:

For Apple:

  • A faster and more efficient sales process
  • Less need for technical support
  • Increase in customer satisfaction

  • Less technical complexity
  • A better user experience

The Presto system could revolutionize how Apple sells iPhones, and how users set them up.

The Presto system is a revolutionary step toward making the iPhone buying experience even easier, and it is likely to make things much easier for users in the future.
