Starfield file size grows bigger by the day

It’s no secret that Starfield file size is shaping up to be one of the biggest game downloads ever due to the sheer volume of the game, but the recent update to the Xbox file has taken the game’s size to a whole new level.

With the promise of venturing into the vastness of space, aligning with one of nine factions, and exploring the intricacies of three different belief systems, it was clear that our consoles would need to make some room for Starfield. The game offers an expansive universe to explore, and some players have been clearing space on their devices for months, anticipating that they might lose countless hours to this engaging experience.

Exactly how big is the Starfield file size going to be?

You can get a glimpse of the grand scale of Starfield in the story trailer. However, since Starfield achieved gold status on August 16th, Todd Howard has provided some reassurance by revealing that the main campaign will typically take around 40 hours to complete. If you’re particularly swift, you might manage it in about 30 hours—but that’s not even accounting for the blazing-fast speedrunners who can finish games in just 10 minutes!

While the expected length of the main story is somewhat manageable, the updated file size of a whopping 139.84GB is a different story. As one Redditor aptly put it, “Ouchy. Time to do some cleanup.” And it’s quite relatable. Although I’m personally a PC guy, my 512GB SSD will be needing some cleanup for I don’t hang out with a quarter of my file space just empty.

On the other hand, some fans weren’t entirely caught off guard. A user named Big-Concentrate-9859 pointed out, “Honestly, considering the supposed scope of the game, the size isn’t bad. I’m pretty sure my MW2 and Warzone installations took up more space.” While we can’t confirm or deny this claim, it does seem to make sense. Starfield is aiming to deliver the space RPG experience we’ve all been eagerly waiting for, so it’s only reasonable that it needs a fair amount of room to do so.

However, despite the Starfield file size not being a shock to many, a few fans couldn’t help but express concern for the Xbox Series S. One user humorously quipped, “My Xbox Series S has started sweating.” Given that the Xbox Series S was responsible for the delay of Baldur’s Gate 3 for Xbox, it’s valid to wonder if the console might be feeling the strain.

If you’re in the same boat and need to make space on your Xbox, remember that you’ve got until September 6th before Starfield lands on Xbox and PC. So, roll up your sleeves and start decluttering—space exploration awaits!
