The captivating world of Pokémon Go never ceases to amaze trainers with new additions to its ever-expanding roster. Among the recent arrivals is Turtonator, a remarkable Gen 7 Pokémon that made its debut during the enthralling Season of Hidden Gems. With its intriguing combination of Fire and Dragon types, Turtonator draws inspiration from the mythical Tarasque, a dragon-like creature from French folklore.

In this article, we will explore the methods of obtaining Turtonator in the game, along with effective strategies to counter its strengths and weaknesses in raids.

How to get Turtonator in Pokemon GO?

The highly anticipated arrival of it in the game took place during the Dark Flames event, which commenced on June 29th, 2023. To acquire this Blast Turtle Pokémon, trainers had two primary options available to them:

Event-exclusive field research task

By winning three raids, trainers had the opportunity to encounter it as part of the Dark Flames event. However, this method required persistence and a fair share of luck. The field research tasks available at PokéStops change daily, and there was a possibility of obtaining a seasonal task instead of the event-exclusive one. Therefore, trainers who wished to obtain Turtonator through this method were advised to join local Pokémon Go groups. Collaborating with fellow trainers increased the chances of finding the desired research task, ensuring a smoother journey towards capturing this elusive Pokémon.

Three-star raids

It could also be encountered as a formidable three-star raid boss. Trainers opting for this route needed to bear in mind the challenging nature of the encounter. Without a team of powerful Pokémon, it proved to be a daunting task to defeat Turtonator individually. Collaborating with fellow trainers and utilizing tools such as Remote Raid Passes and apps like Poke Genie offered an opportunity to participate in raids worldwide. Trainers should remain aware of any changes to the Remote Raid Pass system to optimize their raiding experience.

It is worth noting that it does not have any evolutions, simplifying the task of completing its entry in the Pokédex. However, it is highly recommended to seize the opportunity to catch it during the Dark Flames event. The spawn rate of this remarkable Pokémon after the conclusion of the event remains uncertain. Considering the scarcity of recently released Pokémon post-event, adding Turtonator to the Pokédex during its availability is a prudent decision.

Turtonator’s counters

To effectively counter its strengths and exploit its weaknesses in raids, trainers must familiarize themselves with its type advantages and disadvantages. It boasts a dual Fire and Dragon typing, rendering it vulnerable to Dragon, Ground, and Rock types. Here are some notable Turtonator counters and suggested Pokémon to employ:

  • Dragon-types: Rayquaza, Salamence, Palkia, and Zekrom
  • Ground-types: Rhydon, Garchomp, Rhyperior, and Therian Landorus
  • Rock-types: Rampardos, Terrakion, Tyrantrum, and Gigalith

While Dragon-types may appear as viable counters, its own Dragon typing grants it an advantage over these Pokémon. Hence, assembling a team of Ground and Rock types proves to be more effective. Trainers should exercise caution and avoid choosing Pokémon with Steel as part of their typing.

Turtonator’s Combat Power

For trainers eager to optimize their its Combat Power (CP), the following ranges are worth noting:

  • Raid Boss CP for Turtonator: 16,379 CP
  • Turtonator’s maximum CP at Level 40: 2,223 CP
  • Maximum normal CP when catching Turtonator: 1,203 to 1,270 CP
  • Maximum weather boost CP (Sunny and Windy) when catching Turtonator: 1,504 to 1,587 CP

Turtonator’s moveset

When it comes to its moveset, trainers are advised to consider the following combinations in the game:

Possible Fast Moves:

  • Ember (Fire)
  • Fire Spin (Fire)
  • Incinerate (Fire)

Possible Charged Moves:

  • Dragon Pulse (Dragon)
  • Flamethrower (Fire)
  • Flash Cannon (Steel)
  • Overheat (Fire)

By utilizing Fire Spin as the Fast Move and Overheat as the Charged Move, trainers can capitalize on Turtonator’s formidable potential. Alternatively, opting for Dragon Pulse as the Charged Move enables trainers to leverage their Dragon typing.

With this comprehensive guide, trainers are now equipped with the knowledge and strategies required to embark on their quest in the game. May fortune favor their endeavors as they traverse the captivating world of Pokémon and capture this unique and awe-inspiring Pokémon.
