Twitter’s brand managers take note: the new Verification for Organizations program, which costs $1,000 per month, is not mandatory anymore for small and medium-sized businesses to obtain a verified badge.

Twitter has been encouraging businesses to verify their existence on the platform by joining the program, and according to Twitter CEO Elon Musk, a more affordable version is in the works for small and medium-sized businesses.

We will have a lower cost tier for small businesses, but need to manage the onboarding of organizations carefully to prevent fraud.

The $1000/month is meant for larger organizations.

So, only large enterprises will have to pay the $1,000 per month required to get certified.

Details: Twitter verification price drops for SMBs

The upcoming change means you can choose how you want to proceed with app verification. If you obtain referrals from tweets or want to optimize your tweet visibility (tweets from verified accounts are now favored in the ‘For You’ feed and in responses), verifying your account may be worth it.

Less than 0.33 percent of Twitter users have subscribed to Twitter Blue, and even fewer businesses are ready to pay the steep $1,000 monthly price that Twitter requires in order to utilize the service. Even when Twitter gave verification to hundreds of famous people and businesses, it didn’t see a big rise in subscriptions. Because of that, Elon Musk thinks a new price option is needed.

The issue is that there isn’t enough of a reason for individuals to pay, especially when you consider that the vast majority of users don’t tweet and hence have no purpose for reach enhancements.

This is a different equation when thinking about brands who do seek the widest possible exposure. But, the $1,000 price tag is unaffordable for most companies when weighed against the potential returns. Nonetheless, it may become more attractive as a choice at lower price points. In addition, you should take into account the fact that Twitter advertising is now available only to verified accounts.

The package’s value and affordability will be determined by the cost savings associated with SMB verification.
