BlizzCon will take place online on February 19 and 20. Blizzard fans are not having a good November, since for the first time in years Blizzcon will not be celebrated this month. Blizzard’s annual convention, where the developers present their new products, has also suffered the consequences of the coronavirus. Already at the beginning of the year, it was announced that this year’s edition would be held exclusively online and it would also be delayed from its usual dates. Since that announcement, the community has been waiting to know when this year’s edition will be held, and finally, there is a date: February 19 and 20, 2021.

Furthermore, since BlizzCon will be held online, Blizzard has chosen to change its name, it will be called BlizzConline. The name change is not something new, we’ve already seen other cases this year, like MineCon, the annual conference in Mojang where future developments of Minecraft are presented, and this year they changed its name to Minecraft Live 2020. A change that invites us to think that when we finally recover the “old normality”, they will recover their face-to-face format and, their original name.

Blizzard’s boss, J. Allen Brack, revealed that the whole event will be free. And yes, I understand that it may sound strange to say that it is good news that an online event is free, as the vast majority are, but normally Blizzard charges online access to BlizzCon for $50.

What to expect from BlizzCon? We can probably expect more news about Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4, both announced at BlizzCon last year. With Naxxramas live in WoW Classic next month, we may also hear about what’s next for the game, including confirmation about the Burning Crusade expansion. And as far as the event itself is concerned, it is to be expected that Blizzard will find a way to take advantage of the online format somehow.

Be that as it may, what is not to be expected is that some schism like the Diablo presentation for smartphones will be repeated. It seems like the lesson is learned, and that BlizzCon has since focused on what interests the immense majority of its followers: PC gaming. So we will learn all details soon. BlizzCon will take place online on February 19 and 20.
