iPhone 12 will not have a 120Hz screen, because they choose 5G connectivity instead. There is no turning back now, Apple will introduce the iPhone 12 on October 13th. We know lots of things thanks to the leaks during the last few days. They have been so intense that we have a lot of information about the design of this mobile phone, and also about its possible specifications.

  • Which products will Apple present tomorrow?
  • Apple TV+ extends free subscription period
  • Apple’s trial with Epic Games will be held on May 3rd 2021

As you know from previous articles, iPhone 12 will come with 4 different models this time. The 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 will have 64GB storage, while the “Pro” and “Pro Max” models will have 128GB storage. This is an important improvement, but the most relevant change will definitely be the integration of the 5G connection.

With the integration of 5G technology, Apple will update its smartphone, but according to several sources, it has been a complicated move for the company. In the end, they had no choice but to rule out the implementation of other relevant improvements for technical and economic reasons.

Apple had to choose: 5G or 120Hz on the iPhone 12

Apple found itself in the position of having to choose between two paths when developing the iPhone 12: integrate 5G connectivity or mount a 120Hz screen. Both improvements would considerably increase battery consumption and reduce autonomy to unacceptable levels.

Clearly, Apple could have chosen to upgrade the battery to compensate for the increased consumption, but this change would have required major internal modifications that would have ended up significantly increasing production costs, meaning that the selling price of the iPhone 12 would have ended up being much higher than expected.

We already know how important the selling price is when we talk about the iPhone, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Apple has preferred to limit itself to integrating 5G into the iPhone 12 and has left the 120Hz for a future generation. Nothing has been confirmed, but it is likely that this will end up being one of the most interesting new features of the iPhone 13.

iPhone 12 “mini” will be the best-selling model of the new generation of Apple according to some sources, with an estimated total of 40% of shipments (it will represent almost half of all iPhone 12 sold). It’s a pretty optimistic forecast, but it makes sense since it will be the most economical of the four variants that will be launched by the company.
