Joe and Anthony Russo’s production firm, AGBO, has set up an eight-episode limited series about the FTX scandal on Amazon, according to Variety. An insider with knowledge of the project claims that the Russos are in discussions to direct in addition to executive producing, while David Weil is expected to write the pilot and executive produce. In addition to Natalie Laine Williams, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Scott Nemes for AGBO will serve as executive producers.

When will we watch the FTX scandal on Amazon?

The series about the FTX scandal will reportedly premiere on Amazon in the spring of 2023.

“We are excited to be able to continue our great working relationship with David, Joe, Anthony, and the AGBO team with this fascinating event series. I can’t think of better partners to bring this multifaceted story to our global Prime Video audience,” stated Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios.

FTX was established in 2019 and quickly rose to prominence as one of the largest and most well-known cryptocurrency exchanges worldwide. But in recent weeks, FTX has crumbled, with reports of over $2 billion in stolen client cash and federal authorities conducting investigations. Sam Bankman-Fried, popularly known as SBF, the former CEO and co-founder of FTX, has also come under intense investigation.

Several journalists who have covered FTX and Bankman-Fried are said to have contributed “insider reporting” for the Amazon series, while it is yet unknown exactly what sources will be used. Additionally, according to sources, the Russos have had early negotiations with a number of Marvel performers with whom they have previously collaborated about appearing on the program in significant roles.

“This is one of the most brazen frauds ever committed. It crosses many sectors—celebrity, politics, academia, tech, criminality, sex, drugs, and the future of modern finance. At the center of it all sits an extremely mysterious figure with complex and potentially dangerous motivations. We want to understand why,” the Russo brothers explained.

The FTX scandal series was announced after Variety wrote about how Hollywood was interested in learning more about the specifics of the incident. Additionally, it is the most recent limited series about contemporary entrepreneurs and the sudden downfall of their businesses. Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes was portrayed by Amanda Seyfried in Hulu’s “The Dropout,” which just won the Emmy for outstanding actress in a limited series. Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway appeared in Apple’s “WeCrashed,” which followed the growth and collapse of WeWork under Adam and Rebekah Neumann. Additionally, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick in the anthology series “Super Pumped” on Showtime. Facebook’s second season is still in the planning stages.

The Russos inked a deal with Amazon in 2018 for the high-budget spy drama “Citadel” after their success on two “Captain America” films and two “Avengers” flicks. The goal of the series, which stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra, is to produce several regional spinoffs in other countries. Following retakes, the first season of “Citadel” finished filming earlier this year. At the time of this writing, no premiere date had been decided.

Weil has collaborated with the Russos and AGBO for the second time; he was supposedly hired for “Citadel” rewrites. As the creator and showrunner of the conspiracy thriller series “Hunters,” which will finish with its upcoming second season, this is Weil’s third Amazon production to date.
