Android Go will add HDR and night mode to your photo app. When we talk about Android most people think of its standard version, we must not forget that it also has flavors like Android Go, designed to fit specific hardware profiles. It is a nice option for user experience. Google‘s operating system is adapted to work in a lower hardware profile.

Android Go has not stopped evolving. Google gave importance to this version as much as the full version of Android. It has been jumping from version to version, as well as adding new functions in the different revisions of each version. Now Android Go will bring HDR and night mode to the photo app.

  • Google Pixel 5 presented: specs, price and release date
  • Google Pixel 4a 5G introduced: specs, price and release date
  • Android 11 Go Edition is introduced, here are the features

The next improvements of Android Go, which as you know is the system that is installed in low-end smartphones, will allow users to take better pictures in night mode. It will enable you to take well exposed images even if some of them are very bright and others quite dark, thanks to its HDR support. A function that will bring low-end devices with Android Go closer to features that, until now, were only common in much more expensive devices. We will see if Android Go HDR and night mode can compete with standard AI-supported versions.

However, the night mode and HDR of the Android Go will not be based on the same technology as the photo software presented with the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, which uses artificial intelligence functions to interpret images. Instead, this revision of the photographic function will be based on taking several images in burst mode. These images will be combined to obtain a single image well lit in all parts.

The arrival of the HDR mode to Android Go is expected by the end of the year, it has already begun to be deployed in some devices, and it is expected that it will soon reach more smartphones with this operating system. It will be interesting to take the same image with a Pixel 5 and a phone with Android Go to compare them, the results can be surprising.
