YouTube has updated its search filters to allow users to separate Shorts from long-form videos. Previously, searches returned a mix of both formats. The new options include selecting “Videos” to display only long-form videos or “Shorts” to show only short-form content.
The platform is introducing a “Popularity” filter, which replaces the previous “View count” sort option. YouTube states that this filter ranks videos using view count along with other relevance signals, such as watch time, specific to each query.
YouTube is also removing the “Upload Date – Last Hour” and “Sort by Rating” filters. The company explained that these “were not working as expected and had contributed to user complaints.” Remaining upload date filters include “Today,” “This week,” “This month,” and “This year.”
Additionally, the “Sort By” menu in search filters is now called “Prioritize.” YouTube noted that “this refined sorting menu aims to maximize utility.”
