Google introduced a shoppable discovery feed for Doppl on Monday, allowing users to virtually try on clothing through AI-generated content.
The company stated the feed displays recommendations, enabling users to discover and virtually try on new items. Most items in the feed are shoppable, providing direct links to merchants. The discovery feed incorporates AI-generated videos of actual products and suggests outfits based on user-defined preferences and interactions within Doppl.
Google’s initiative responds to the prevalence of short-form video feeds on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where users scroll visual content and make purchases. In contrast to TikTok and Instagram, which feature human influencers, Google’s new feed exclusively uses AI-generated content. This strategy aligns with surfacing products in a familiar format and supports Google’s e-commerce efforts amid competition from Amazon and social media platforms.
AI-generated videos are not a new feature within Doppl. The app already converts static images of virtual outfits into AI-generated videos to provide a more realistic preview. The new discovery feed is launching on iOS and Android versions of Doppl in the U.S. for users 18 and older. The concept of feeds composed solely of AI-generated content is becoming more common, as evidenced by OpenAI’s September launch of Sora, and Meta’s “Vibes” short-form video feed within its Meta AI app.
