Valorant’s anti-cheat system, Vanguard, requires Secure Boot to be enabled on your PC to ensure secure gameplay and prevent cheating. This guide will walk you through the process to enable Secure Boot for Valorant, helping you resolve any related launch errors and meet the game’s security standards.

Before you start: Ensure your PC supports UEFI mode (check your motherboard manual), have administrative access on Windows, and back up important data in case of boot issues.
Warning: Incorrectly changing BIOS/UEFI settings can prevent your PC from booting. If you’re unsure, consult your PC manufacturer’s support or a professional to avoid data loss or hardware issues.

How to enable Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI for Valorant

Follow these steps carefully to access your BIOS/UEFI settings and turn on Secure Boot, ensuring compatibility with Valorant’s Vanguard anti-cheat.

  • Restart your computer and access the BIOS/UEFI setup during boot:
    • Press the appropriate key repeatedly as the PC starts, such as Delete, F2, F10, or Esc (check your motherboard manual for the exact key).
    • Alternatively, from Windows: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Under Advanced startup, click Restart now > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.
  • Switch your boot mode to UEFI if it’s not already:
    • Look for the Boot Mode or Boot Priority option (often under the Boot tab).
    • Set it to UEFI or UEFI Only, disabling Legacy or CSM modes, as Secure Boot requires UEFI.
  • Locate the Secure Boot option in the BIOS/UEFI menu:
    • Navigate to the Boot, Security, or Authentication tab (exact location varies by manufacturer).
    • For ASUS: Go to Boot tab > Secure Boot > Set to Enabled.
    • For Dell: Under Secure Boot in the Boot Sequence section > Enable it.
    • For HP: In Security tab > Secure Boot Configuration > Enable Secure Boot.
  • Save your changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI:
    • Press F10 (or the designated key) to save and exit, then confirm.
    • Your PC will restart automatically with Secure Boot now active.
  • Launch Valorant to verify:
    • Open the game client and start a match.
    • Check for any Secure Boot-related errors; if none appear, the setup is successful.
Pro tip: If Valorant still shows anti-cheat errors after enabling Secure Boot, also enable TPM 2.0 in your BIOS/UEFI under the Security or Advanced tab, as Vanguard requires both for full compatibility.

Secure Boot enhances your PC’s security by verifying that only trusted software loads during startup, which directly supports Valorant’s Vanguard system in detecting and blocking cheats. This feature helps maintain fair play across the game’s competitive community, reducing the risk of unfair advantages from malicious software.

By following this guide, you’re not just fixing launch issues but also protecting your system from broader threats like rootkits or unauthorized firmware changes. Ultimately, it ensures a smoother, more reliable gaming experience without compromising on safety, allowing you to focus on improving your skills in Valorant.
