If you find your iPhone alarms are either too loud or too quiet, you can easily change the alarm volume on an iPhone using the main Settings app. This process also allows you to enable a feature that lets you use the physical side buttons for future volume adjustments, giving you more convenient control.

How to adjust the alarm volume on your iPhone

Follow these simple steps to quickly set your alarm volume to the perfect level through your iPhone’s main settings menu.

  • Open the Settings app, which is represented by a gray gear icon and is usually found on your home screen.
  • Tap the Sounds option, which is located in the top half of the Settings screen.
  • Slide the Ringer and Alerts volume slider to the left or right to set your desired level. Your phone’s ringer will play as you make the adjustment so you can hear the volume you are setting.
  • If you want to change the alarm volume with the physical side buttons in the future, scroll down and toggle the switch for Change with Buttons to the on position.
Pro tip: You can test your new alarm volume without waiting for an alarm to go off. Simply open the Clock app, go to the Alarm tab, and tap ‘Edit’ on any existing alarm to preview its sound at the volume you just set.

Adjusting your alarm volume correctly is more than just a minor tweak; it directly impacts the start of your day. An alarm that is too loud can be jarring and stressful, while one that is too quiet might cause you to oversleep and miss important appointments. Finding the perfect balance ensures a more pleasant and reliable wake-up experience.

Furthermore, this setting often controls the volume for other critical notifications, such as incoming calls and text message alerts. By properly configuring the Ringer and Alerts volume, you ensure that you won’t miss important communications or, conversely, disturb others in a quiet environment like an office or library. It’s a simple change that enhances your device’s usability throughout the day.
