Xiaomi President Lu Weibing has confirmed the company will continue to include a rear-facing screen on its flagship smartphones. The feature, present on the recently launched Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models, will also be integrated into the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. The company is increasing its research and development investment to expand the screen’s software capabilities.

The Pro models of the Xiaomi 17 series, launched in China last month, incorporate a 2.1-inch LTPO AMOLED screen into the rear camera module. Xiaomi has invested CNY 1 billion in R&D for this feature. The company stated the rear screen contributed to record sales within the first five minutes of availability and helped the series achieve 1 million shipments in record time.

Sales for the entire Xiaomi 17 series increased by 20% compared to the previous generation. The Pro series models specifically saw sales triple in volume compared to the Xiaomi 15 Pro. Xiaomi intends to add new features to the rear screen on a monthly basis, with a real-time translation function scheduled to arrive in a software update at the end of this month.
