Gearbox has revealed its first paid DLC vault hunter for Borderlands 4 at the Tokyo Game Show. The new character, C4SH, is a former casino dealer robot whose abilities will incorporate an element of chance across all three skill trees. A short cinematic teaser introducing C4SH was shown during the game’s panel and has been made available on YouTube. Gearbox plans to release a full breakdown of the character’s abilities at a future, unspecified date.

C4SH is scheduled to launch in Q1 2026 alongside the game’s first story pack, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.” This downloadable content will include new main missions, new gear, a new map region, and various cosmetic items. The C4SH character will be included as part of this story pack.

While future content has been detailed, Borderlands 4 is currently addressing existing technical issues. A recent patch aimed at improving performance has reportedly caused additional problems. Gearbox has advised PC players who experience instability within 15 minutes of starting the game to clear their shader cache.

In other news, the release of Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2 has been delayed to an unspecified date to allow for “additional development and polish time.” Shortly after the game’s initial release, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford posted on X, advising players unhappy with the game’s performance to seek a refund.

Despite these technical issues, Eurogamer’s review of Borderlands 4 highlighted some of the game’s strengths. The review states: “Borderlands 4 brings a more sensible script and a true open world to its pseudo-cel-shaded gun-show. But these moderate improvements are undermined by frustrating exploration and combat that takes too long to properly shine.”
