Huawei announced new supernode computing cluster systems at its Connect 2025 conference in Shanghai, a move to bolster its AI computing power and compete with platforms from Nvidia and xAI. The company introduced the Atlas 950 and Atlas 960 systems, which include both superpods and superclusters.
The Atlas 950 superpod will feature 8,192 Ascend neural processing unit (NPU) cards and is scheduled for launch in Q4 2026. By the end of 2027, the company plans to release the Atlas 960 superpod with up to 15,488 Ascend 960 NPU cards. The supercluster systems include the Atlas 950, expected by the end of 2026 with over 500,000 Ascend NPUs, and the Atlas 960, which will contain more than 1 million Ascend NPUs.
According to Huawei, these systems are intended to address chip manufacturing limitations and advance domestic AI development.
