Microsoft has announced the integration of AI agents into its Teams platform, enhancing collaboration tools with dedicated Copilot assistants for every channel, meeting, and community. The update, revealed on September 18, 2025, extends functionality to SharePoint and Viva Engage, and is initially available to Microsoft 365 Copilot users.
At the core of the rollout are facilitator agents, which join Teams meetings to automate key tasks. These agents generate agendas, take notes, and respond to questions in real-time. They also propose time allocations for discussion topics, alerting participants if sessions overrun, and can create associated documents and tasks. A mobile-optimized version allows activation with a single tap, ensuring the agent captures insights from impromptu hallway conversations or in-person meetings.
Channel agents focus on Teams channels, drawing from historical conversations and meetings to answer queries and produce project status reports. Complementing these are community agents within Viva Engage, Microsoft’s enterprise social networking tool. These agents assist community administrators by fielding user questions and fostering engagement across company-wide networks.
Behind the scenes, knowledge agents operate in SharePoint, automatically organizing, tagging, and summarizing files to streamline content management. Facilitator agents are now live, though features like document and task creation remain in public preview. The other agents—channel, community, and knowledge—are also in preview stages.
Accompanying the agents is a redesigned Workflows tool, enabling users to build AI-driven automations for routine tasks. Additionally, a new feature generates audio recaps from meeting notes, further boosting productivity. This expansion positions Microsoft Teams as a more intelligent hub for workplace communication and collaboration.
