Google is reportedly developing a new subscription plan called Google Home Premium, which could replace the existing Nest Aware service for its Nest security cameras. The discovery comes from code strings in the latest Google Home Android app version 3.41, analyzed by 9to5Google, hinting at enhanced AI integrations powered by Gemini.

Nest Aware currently enables users to access up to two months of recorded footage from their Google Nest cameras, capturing activity around the home. However, with the anticipated rollout of Gemini AI features, Google appears poised to overhaul its subscription model. The new Google Home Premium plan is expected to introduce advanced capabilities, building on the familiar faces recognition already available in Nest Aware but potentially supercharged with AI.

Key features teased in the app’s code include the ability to “teach compatible cameras to recognise who you know,” allowing users to train devices on household members for more accurate detection. This familiar faces functionality may leverage Gemini AI for improved tracking and identification. Another standout element is described as “Security that understands what it sees,” pointing to object and pet identification systems first previewed at Google I/O. These enhancements aim to make Nest cameras smarter at distinguishing between people, animals, and other elements in the environment.

Promotional strings in the code further suggest practical benefits, such as “Keep up with what’s important to you with detailed AI event descriptions, notifications, and daily summaries of what happened at home.” This could provide users with concise recaps of daily activities, reducing the need to sift through hours of footage. In emergency scenarios, the system might even enable cameras to automatically call authorities, adding a layer of proactive safety.

The report also uncovers references to a Google Home Premium Advanced tier, likely succeeding the current Nest Aware Plus plan. Nest Aware Plus offers 60 days of event video history and 10 days of continuous 24/7 video recording, providing extensive storage for comprehensive monitoring. Details on the Advanced plan’s offerings remain unclear, but it could expand on these with more AI-driven storage or analysis tools.

Integration with broader Google services is another highlight. Code snippets indicate that Google Home Premium may bundle with Google One, Google’s cloud storage and perks subscription. This bundling is already in place for Nest Aware in the UK, where subscribers can access the camera features as part of their Google One plan. Expansion to additional regions could make premium home security more accessible, potentially lowering costs for existing Google One users.

While none of these features are active yet, their presence in the app’s code suggests an imminent launch, aligning with Google’s push to infuse Gemini AI into its smart home ecosystem. This move could unify subscriptions under the Google Home brand, simplifying offerings for users while emphasizing AI’s role in everyday security. As Google continues to evolve its Nest lineup—including recent sightings of new outdoor and indoor camera models alongside the Nest Doorbell—Home Premium positions the company to compete more aggressively in the AI-enhanced smart home market.

Industry observers note that these developments follow reports of Gemini AI integration into Google Home devices, promising to make routines smarter and more responsive. For now, users on Nest Aware can continue enjoying current benefits, but the shift to Google Home Premium may bring a more intelligent, interconnected experience to homes worldwide.
