Anthropic has rolled out a memory feature for its Claude AI model, but access is currently limited to users with Team and Enterprise plans. This announcement comes shortly after the company revealed Claude’s new ability to generate spreadsheets and presentations.
According to a company blog post, Claude’s new memory allows it to “remember you and your team’s projects and preferences.” This personalized experience aims to improve efficiency and collaboration for professional users. However, the memory functionality is not available to free users or those on individual Pro or Max plans.
In addition to memory, Anthropic launched incognito chats for all users. Similar to incognito mode in web browsers, these chats are not saved in conversation history or stored in Claude’s memory, providing an added layer of privacy.
For Team and Enterprise users, Claude can now retain professional context, including client needs, project details, and team processes. The AI model can also create separate memories for individual projects when the “projects” feature is utilized, offering a dedicated workspace for each endeavor.
Anthropic acknowledges “new safety considerations” associated with the memory function, emphasizing its design for work-related tasks and avoidance of archiving sensitive information. While specific details were not disclosed, the company plans to evaluate and test the feature before expanding it to a wider user base.
Team and Enterprise users can enable Claude’s memory within the app’s settings, where they can also review and adjust memory summaries. Enterprise administrators have the option to disable the memory feature for all users under their plan.
Furthermore, users can import memory from other AI programs into Claude or export their Claude memory. This move positions Anthropic closer to competitors like Google Gemini and ChatGPT, which have already implemented memory features and expanded upon them over time.
