Google’s NotebookLM, known for its utility in summarizing complex documents, has received an update enhancing its Audio Overview feature. The update introduces three new formats—Brief, Critique, and Debate—alongside the existing Deep Dive option, providing users with more versatile ways to engage with their notes.
Announced via NotebookLM’s official X account, the update is currently rolling out to users. A demonstration video showcases the desktop application transitioning between the four formats, with AI voices dynamically adjusting their tone to suit each style.
The new formats offer distinct approaches to content summarization. Deep Dive remains the comprehensive, long-form option, while Brief condenses information into a concise 1-to-2-minute summary. Critique presents the material as expert feedback, offering analytical insights. Debate stages a simulated discussion, highlighting opposing viewpoints within the text.
This enhancement builds upon Google’s recent efforts to expand NotebookLM’s Audio and Video Overview capabilities. The tool was recently upgraded to support over 80 non-English languages, ensuring detailed summarization parity with its English counterpart. This move underscores Google’s commitment to refining and developing NotebookLM as its user base grows.
The addition of Brief, Critique, and Debate formats aims to provide users with diverse and engaging ways to understand and interact with their notes, further solidifying NotebookLM’s position as a practical AI tool.
