Huawei has announced the launch of its MatePad Mini tablet on September 4th, after months of speculation. The company released a teaser showcasing the device, hinting at flagship-level technology packed into a small form factor. The MatePad Mini is being touted as the first flagship tablet of its size, marking Huawei’s return to the mini tablet market after a considerable hiatus.
The teaser, accompanied by the caption “A different Mini, a super-Mini. See you on September 4th! #HuaweiMatePad# Mini #HarmonyOS5isdifferent#,” emphasizes the device’s compact size and powerful capabilities. While specific specifications remain under wraps, rumors suggest the MatePad Mini will feature an 8.8-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be powered by a Kirin 9 series chip, potentially the 9020 5G.
According to DigitalChatStation, the MatePad Mini will be available in three colors: Snowy White, Obsidian Black, and Spruce Green. The device will also support 5G connectivity and Nearlink technology. Huawei is positioning the MatePad Mini as a direct competitor to Apple’s iPad mini, aiming to capture a share of the small tablet market in China. The teaser image reveals a slim design and a circular camera module. The company describes the device as “super strong, super Mini”.
The launch of the MatePad Mini represents a significant development for Huawei, signaling its intention to compete in the niche market of high-performance, compact tablets. The device’s success will likely depend on its ability to deliver flagship-level performance in a smaller, more portable package, effectively challenging Apple’s dominance in this segment.
