Instagram has launched a new feature enabling creators to link multiple Reels together in a series, according to a TechCrunch exclusive. This update, mirroring a similar function on TikTok, aims to streamline content discovery and improve viewer experience.
The feature allows creators to connect related Reels, eliminating the need for viewers to scroll or search for subsequent parts of a story or series. Previously, creators often directed viewers to “come back for part 2” or “check back for updates.” Now, linked Reels provide a seamless viewing experience.
Beyond serialized content, the linking feature can also group similar videos. For example, a creator posting a series of fall baking recipes can now link them for easier access.
Creators can link Reels during the captioning process or through the overflow menu on previously shared Reels. Viewers can then navigate through the series using a new button located at the bottom left of the Reel.
Instagram stated that the feature was a highly requested addition designed to facilitate richer storytelling and maintain audience engagement, potentially increasing watch time. The company also anticipates that it could convert casual viewers into dedicated followers.
While not a major overhaul, Instagram believes this update will be well-received by both creators and viewers, simplifying content navigation and engagement on the platform.
