This guide will show you how to uninstall or disable the Facebook app on Android phones. If you are quitting Facebook altogether, you may want to deactivate your Facebook account before you uninstall the app.

How to remove the Facebook app from Android

Follow these detailed steps to either disable or completely uninstall the Facebook application from your Android device.

Method 1: Disabling Facebook

  • Open the Settings app. This is usually represented by a gray gear icon, found in your Android’s app drawer. This method may be your only option, especially if you have a Samsung phone where Facebook comes pre-installed and can only be disabled.
  • Tap Apps. This option is typically next to an icon with dots in the shape of a square and will display a list of all your installed applications.
  • Tap Facebook. Look for the blue Facebook logo with a white lowercase “f”; tapping it will open the Application Information page for the app.
  • Tap Disable. The app will then be disabled, functioning as if it has been uninstalled. To re-enable it, you can return to this page and tap Enable, or simply open the app and update it.

Method 2: Uninstalling Facebook

  • Open the Settings app. This is the icon that resembles a gray gear, typically found in your Android’s app drawer.
  • Tap Apps. This option is usually next to an icon with dots in the shape of a square and will display a list of all your installed applications.
  • Tap Facebook. All apps on your Android device are listed alphabetically. Tap the entry for Facebook, which is next to the blue Facebook logo with the white lowercase “f”, to display its Application Information page.
  • Tap Uninstall. This is the first option located below the title at the top of the page. A pop-up window will appear, asking for confirmation to uninstall the app.
  • Tap Ok. This button is in the bottom-right corner of the pop-up window. Tapping it will proceed with uninstalling the Facebook app from your device.
Pro tip: If you are unable to uninstall Facebook on your Android device, try restarting your phone first. This simple action can often resolve common software glitches that might be preventing the uninstallation process.

What to do next?

After removing the Facebook app, you might be wondering about your account data or how to delete your Facebook account permanently. Deleting the app only removes it from your phone; your account and all its data remain active on Facebook’s servers.

If you wish to delete your Facebook account entirely, you need to do so through Facebook’s settings, not by just uninstalling the app. Navigate to your Facebook settings, then go to Personal and Account Information, followed by Account Ownership and Control, and finally Deactivation and Deletion to choose your preferred option.
