Sonos Voice Control to add Philips Hue support

Sonos Voice Control is set to expand its capabilities beyond music and integrate with the Philips Hue smart home platform by the end of 2025, according to Hueblog. This integration will enable users to control Philips Hue lights through voice commands, marking the first time Sonos Voice Control will be compatible with an external smart home platform.

Sonos Voice Control, launched in 2022, was developed following Sonos’s acquisition of Snips, a “private-by-design” AI voice platform, in late 2019. It offers an alternative to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing users to control Sonos speakers, adjust volume, group devices, and play music from streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify. A key feature is its emphasis on privacy, with all commands processed locally rather than in the cloud.

Since its inception, the smart assistant’s functionalities have gradually expanded to include setting timers and checking the weather. The upcoming compatibility with Philips Hue is expected to allow users to turn individual lights on and off, adjust brightness, or activate pre-set scenes using voice commands, though specific details remain unconfirmed.

Further information regarding this integration may be revealed at a Philips Hue media event scheduled for September 3, 2025, during the IFA show in Berlin, where the company typically announces new products and services. The Verge has contacted Sonos for comment on this potential significant expansion of its voice control system.
