Nintendo’s Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling game console in history, with 5.82 million units sold globally by the end of June—nearly one month after launch. This exceeds first-week sales of over 3.5 million units and more than doubles the original Switch’s first-month sales of 2.7 million.
Demand continues to outpace supply “in many countries,” prompting Nintendo to apologize for shortages and pledge production increases. The console’s record-breaking performance drove Nintendo’s Q2 (April-June) revenue to $3.8 billion—a 132% surge from $1.6 billion in Q2 2024.
Despite forecasting 15 million units sold by March 2025, Nintendo faces uncertainty from new U.S. tariffs: a 20% levy on Vietnamese imports (up from 10%), where the Switch 2 is manufactured, announced by the Trump administration.
