AYANEO has unveiled the first device under its new sub-brand, KONKR, called the Pocket FIT. This handheld gaming device is set to feature the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipset, positioning it as a high-performance option in the market. While pricing and launch dates remain undisclosed, the specifications suggest it could be a strong contender for high-performance emulation.
The announcement of KONKR as a cheaper sub-brand earlier in the week had sparked speculation about its target market segment. While AYANEO remains focused on the ultra-premium category, the KONKR Pocket FIT appears to be targeting the premium segment, potentially outperforming competitors like the Retroid Flip 2 and AYN Odin 2 lineup.
According to the company’s livestream, the Pocket FIT will be equipped with the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, a chipset described as the latest and most powerful for gaming handhelds. Preliminary testing suggests this chipset outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the Odin 2 Portal. AYANEO’s collaboration with Qualcomm to develop drivers for these new chips is also a factor in the device’s performance capabilities. To further enhance driver support, AYANEO has provided sample units to the Eden emulator team, which develops a Nintendo Switch emulator.
Interestingly, the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipset in the Pocket FIT is said to be more powerful than the one in AYANEO’s new flagship handheld, the Pocket DS. The Pocket DS, with its dual-screen design, has been under development for over a year, which AYANEO attributes to the use of an older chipset. The company did not opt for a cheaper alternative like the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, expected to power the Retroid Pocket 6.
Beyond the chipset, the Pocket FIT features a 6-inch 144Hz LCD panel, Hall effect sticks, front-facing stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and an 8,000mAh battery with fast charging. The device will be available in Phantom Black, Snow White, and Dragon Yellow.
While AYANEO has not yet revealed the price of the KONKR Pocket FIT, the specifications suggest a price point of at least $300. For comparison, AYANEO’s first device with the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipset, the Pocket S2, starts at $499 retail, or $439 during the crowdfunding campaign. The Pocket ACE, which featured the previous generation G3 Gen 2 chipset, started at $459 retail or $339 during the crowdfunding campaign.
If the Pocket FIT launches for under $300, even as an early bird discount, it could become the best entry point into high-performance emulation, especially when compared to the Odin 2 Portal, which starts at $329 before shipping. More details are expected in the coming weeks, and interested individuals can sign up for updates on the Indiegogo page to receive notifications regarding the launch.
