Forza Horizon 5, a title previously exclusive to Xbox, has become the highest-selling game on PS5 for the current year, surpassing 3 million copies sold. This information comes from analyst firm Alinea Analytics, which tracks top-selling games. The game’s release on Sony’s platform occurred at the end of April.

For context, Forza Horizon 5 has accumulated over 45.5 million players across Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S since its 2021 launch, largely through the Game Pass subscription. On Steam, it has sold an additional 6.5 million copies since 2021.

In comparison to Sony’s platformer Astro Bot, Forza Horizon 5 has already exceeded 3 million sales, while Astro Bot is nearing that milestone almost a year after its release. This success highlights the impact of Microsoft’s strategy to expand its game availability to PlayStation.

Beyond Forza, Alinea’s data reveals other significant PS5 sales. Monster Hunter Wilds ranks as the second highest-selling PS5 game this year, with 2.9 million copies sold. Despite fewer units than Forza, its higher price point has generated more revenue. On Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds has sold 6.2 million copies, indicating PC sales nearly double those on consoles.

Role-playing games (RPGs) prominently feature in the top five. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is in third place, with approximately 2 million copies sold on PS5. In contrast, it has seen 1.1 million players on Xbox, influenced by Ubisoft+ subscriptions.

The Elden Ring spin-off, Nightreign, has sold 1.4 million copies on PlayStation consoles, 2.7 million on Steam, and 750,000 on Xbox, totaling nearly 5 million copies. Notably, 84% of Nightreign players on PlayStation previously played the original Elden Ring.

Rounding out the top five is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has sold 1.4 million copies on PS5 this year. Alinea Analytics noted this figure is comparable to the combined sales of last year’s Metaphor: ReFantazio and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, underscoring its significant success as a new intellectual property.

In another comparison, Kojima Productions’ PS5 exclusive, Death Stranding 2, is estimated to have sold 1 million copies within 25 days of its release. Forza Horizon 5, which garnered positive reception upon its initial Xbox Series X/S release in 2021, is now considered to offer the best console experience on the PS5 Pro.
