Apple unveiled several new features for the Photos app in iOS 26 at WWDC25, including the reintroduction of a tab bar layout, a change from the previous year’s single-page redesign. Users will also gain the ability to create spatial scenes from their existing photo collections.
A significant new capability in the iOS 26 Photos app is its enhanced event recognition and detail provision. The app can now identify and group photos taken at concerts, sporting events, or other major gatherings. Upon recognition, it will offer relevant insights about the event.
For concert photos, the app will display the setlist, performing artists, venue information, related playlists, and details on upcoming concerts. Similarly, for sporting events, it will provide the scoreboard, venue, and upcoming event schedules.
Photos associated with recognized events will feature a unique “ticket button” in place of the standard information button. Tapping this new button will open a dedicated events panel, providing comprehensive details. Furthermore, “Memories” within the Collections tab will be automatically titled with the specific name of the concert or sports game attended.
While not a highly anticipated feature, this addition aims to enrich users’ memories by providing contextual details, enhancing the overall experience of the Photos app.
