Meta, a dominant force in the tech industry, is reportedly on the cusp of unveiling its next-generation smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova. Following the considerable success of its collaborative smart glasses with Ray-Ban, the company appears poised to introduce a more advanced, higher-end iteration featuring an integrated display. This eagerly anticipated device, rumored to debut by year-end, has now surfaced through a leaked render, offering the first glimpse into Meta’s ambitious AI-powered wearable.
The leaked image, shared by prominent leaker Arsène Lupin, showcases a pair of smart glasses accompanied by a wrist accessory. While the render’s resolution is modest, it provides a clear view of the wrist-worn device. This accessory is strongly suspected to be Ceres, a “neural” wristband controller previously associated with Meta’s canceled Orion AR glasses. Ceres is expected to facilitate intuitive control of the Hypernova glasses through hand gestures, allowing users to navigate applications by rotating their hand or select items by pinching their fingers and thumb.

From a design perspective, the Hypernova glasses bear a striking resemblance to the current Meta Ray-Ban models. However, crucial distinctions lie beneath the surface, most notably the rumored built-in monocular screen. This display, while not discernible in the low-resolution leak, is anticipated to be positioned in the lower-right quadrant of the right lens. Upon activation, the screen is projected to present a home interface featuring horizontally arranged circular icons, reminiscent of app docks found on various contemporary devices.
Functionality is set to be robust, with dedicated applications enabling users to capture and view photos, and even access maps. Furthermore, the Hypernova glasses are expected to offer notification support for popular phone applications such as WhatsApp and Messenger. Control mechanisms will extend beyond the Ceres wristband, incorporating capacitive touch interactions on the frames’ sides. Meta is also reportedly investing in significant upgrades to the integrated camera system.
Pricing for the Meta Hypernova smart glasses is estimated to range between $1,000 and $1,400, with the final cost and official marketing name to be determined closer to the product’s announcement. Looking further ahead, Meta is already said to be developing a second-generation version, codenamed Hypernova 2. This future iteration is projected to feature dual screens but is not expected to launch until at least 2027.
