vivo is gearing up to launch its latest foldable smartphone, the X Fold5, successor to the X Fold3 which debuted in March of the previous year. Recent teasers from the company and a brand official highlight significant improvements in the new model’s design, focusing on weight and thickness compared to its predecessor and even a competing flagship.

vivo recently released a video demonstrating that the upcoming X Fold5 will be lighter than the X Fold3, weighing in at 219g. Further emphasizing its sleek profile, a vivo brand official shared images showcasing the X Fold5 alongside the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max for a direct comparison of thickness.

The shared images present the vivo X Fold5 in both its unfolded and folded states. When unfolded, the X Fold5 appears noticeably thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. More impressively, even when folded, the X Fold5 is only slightly thicker than the Apple device. This is particularly notable considering the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a thickness of 8.3mm, while the folded X Fold3 measured 10.2mm thick. This indicates that the vivo X Fold5 is not only lighter but also significantly thinner than the X Fold3.

While vivo has not yet officially announced the launch date for the X Fold5, rumors suggest it will be unveiled on July 10. Speculation also points to the potential unveiling of the vivo X200 FE alongside the foldable device on the same date.

Leaked specifications for the vivo X Fold5 paint a picture of a powerful and well-equipped device. It is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The battery is expected to have a capacity of 6,000 mAh, supporting 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging.

Display details suggest the X Fold5 will feature an 8.03-inch foldable AMOLED inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and “2K+” resolution. The outer display is expected to measure 6.53 inches diagonally, also with a 120Hz refresh rate.

In terms of optics, the X Fold5 is anticipated to feature a total of five cameras. This includes two 32MP selfie cameras, one on each screen. On the rear, a triple-camera setup is expected, comprising three 50MP sensors: a primary camera, an ultrawide camera, and a periscope telephoto lens. The primary camera is rumored to use the Sony IMX921 sensor, while the periscope telephoto lens, offering 3x optical zoom, is expected to utilize the Sony IMX882 sensor. The ultrawide camera is rumored to include autofocus capabilities for macro photography.
