Samsung has announced a significant expansion for its Sleep Apnea detection feature on Galaxy Watches, making it available in 36 additional markets.
This brings the total number of markets where the feature is offered to 70. The new regions include 34 European countries, Australia, and Singapore.
The expansion into Europe follows the feature receiving the CE (Conformité Européenne) label for the European Economic Area. Regulatory approvals were also granted by the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia and the Health Sciences Authority in Singapore.
The Sleep Apnea detection feature was initially launched in the USA last year after receiving De Novo certification from the FDA. It continued to roll out to more regions before this latest global expansion.
Accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app, the feature is compatible with the Galaxy Watch 4 series and subsequent models. It is designed as an over-the-counter software-only medical application.
The feature is intended to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults aged 22 and over. It utilizes the watch’s BioActive Sensor to measure blood oxygen saturation and requires monitoring over a two-night period to identify potential breathing disruptions.
Samsung emphasizes that the feature is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment and is not intended for individuals already diagnosed with sleep apnea. However, it serves as a tool to help users identify potential issues and encourages them to seek medical advice if concerning patterns are detected.
