MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has received its fourth major update, bringing a slew of new features and improvements to the action-adventure game.
One of the most notable additions is the ability to throw repair kits at enemies, giving players a new way to utilize their inventory. This update addresses a previously underutilized aspect of the game, as players can now repurpose their repair kits as a tactical tool in combat.
Two new Adventure Books have been added to the game: “Open Season” and “Sleight of Hand.” Open Season creates a temporary window after whipping enemies, during which they will take increased damage from subsequent attacks. Sleight of Hand allows Indy to pull an enemy’s weapon towards him after disarming them with the whip, providing players with new strategic options in combat.
Indy now has new one-liners during combat, adding to the game’s vocal variety and enhancing the overall combat experience. MachineGames has also improved Ray-traced Global Illumination across all platforms, doing so “at no performance cost.” This enhancement aims to further enrich the game’s visual fidelity.
A timer has been added around Indy’s health bar, indicating how long until enemies stop searching. This feature provides players with a clearer understanding of the game’s enemy AI behavior. Additionally, certain UI elements, such as the HUD’s center dot and stealth vignette, can now be toggled on or off, allowing players to customize their gaming experience.
The journal has seen improvements, particularly in its “lowered” state. Players can now see more of the journal and switch between local and level maps while it’s lowered. A new “Always Allow Skipping Cutscenes” option has been added for players who prefer to bypass cinematic sequences. New tutorials have also been introduced to help players navigate the game’s mechanics.
The menu for purchasing Adventure Books and map information booklets has been revamped, making it more user-friendly. On the PC version, support for the PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller has been added, enabling advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. PlayStation or Steam Deck controllers will now be recognized in the controller configuration menu on PC, enhancing controller compatibility.
Update 4 includes a substantial list of bug fixes, detailed in MachineGames’ patch notes. The update is now live on PC and Xbox. The features and improvements included in Update 4 are expected to be part of the PlayStation 5 release on April 17th.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was named Eurogamer’s game of the year in 2024, following a five-star review that praised the game as “smart, fun and so very Indiana Jones,” describing it as a “stealth action tour de force that marks a bold new era for MachineGames.”
