Xiaomi devices offer a dedicated bokeh (blur) effect to enhance portrait selfies. Here’s how to locate and use this feature for professional-looking results.

What is bokeh?

Bokeh refers to the aesthetic blur in out-of-focus areas of a photo, often used to highlight subjects by softening backgrounds. On Xiaomi phones, this effect is adjustable via the camera’s portrait mode.

Steps to activate the bokeh effect

  1. Open the camera app on your Xiaomi device.
  2. Swipe right on the bottom menu to switch to Portrait Mode (located next to the default Photo Mode).
  3. Look for the “f” icon above the shutter button. Tap it to adjust blur intensity.
  4. Slide the bar to set your preferred blur level:
    • Left (F1): Maximum background blur (ideal for portraits).
    • Right (F16): Minimal blur (retains more background detail).

Tips for optimal results

  • Use Portrait Mode in well-lit environments for accurate subject detection.
  • Experiment with F-stop values to balance subject focus and background aesthetics.
  • Ensure your subject is at a moderate distance from the background for pronounced bokeh.

Mastering this feature allows you to create striking selfies with artistic depth, perfect for social media or professional profiles.
