Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple will release its redesigned Mail app for Mac with the upcoming macOS 15.4 in April, following its introduction on iPhone in December with iOS 18.2.
New Mail app features for Mac and iPad
In a follow-up tweet, Gurman clarified that the redesigned Mail app will also be available for iPad around the same time as its Mac release. Previously, the Mail app for macOS was hinted at during the unveiling of the new M4 Macs in October, where some design elements were showcased. While the design had been initially revealed on the iPhone at WWDC, the timing for its release on macOS had not been confirmed until now.
When iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 beta began rolling out in December, users noted the absence of the new Mail app on Mac, as macOS 15.3 focused on features like Genmoji instead. Gurman states that this omission will soon change with the arrival of macOS 15.4, which is expected to enter its beta phase in the coming weeks and debut in April.
The upcoming Mail app for Mac will feature AI capabilities designed to prioritize messages and categorize content into various inboxes. Currently, iPhone and iPad users have access to this feature, which not only sorts mail into a primary category but also additional categories for transactions, promotions, updates, and all mail. With macOS 15.4, this functionality will be extended to Mac users, addressing the previous lag in feature availability.
Despite Gurman’s assertion that the new Mail app is currently available for iPad, this is not the case with the existing versions of iPadOS, specifically 18.2 and 18.3. Users are hopeful that the new Mail app will debut for iPad users with the anticipated release of iPadOS 18.4.
