Ubisoft announces Claws of Awaji DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The details for the "Claws of Awaji" DLC were initially leaked on the title's Steam page before being removed

Ubisoft has announced that the first downloadable content (DLC) for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, titled “Claws of Awaji,” will feature over 10 hours of new content and is set to launch on March 20, 2025.

Details on Claws of Awaji DLC

The details for the “Claws of Awaji” DLC were initially leaked on the title’s Steam page before being removed. According to Insider Gaming, the description included a pre-purchase incentive offering a bonus mission alongside the DLC. Players will be able to traverse a new region, likely Awaji Island, and gain access to new weapon types, skills, gear, and abilities.

Below is the leaked description:

“Pre-purchase now to get a bonus mission and the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion. Travel to a new region, get over 10 hours of additional content, and unlock a new weapon type, new skills, gear, and abilities.”

This DLC aims to reinforce the content of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which has seen a delay from its original schedule. The game’s release has been pushed back to March 20, 2025, to allow developers to implement feedback and create a more ambitious and engaging experience at launch.

In a notable change, Ubisoft has opted to bundle the entire DLC as a pre-order bonus instead of following its traditional Season Pass model. This shift follows the cancellation of the game’s Season Pass, along with pricing adjustments for early access plans and a reduction in the Collector’s Edition price. This move may reflect Ubisoft’s efforts to retain player interest, especially in light of the underperformance of previous titles such as Star Wars Outlaws.

The now-removed Collector’s Edition trailer video hinted at nine regions on the game’s map, including a small unmarked island to the south, likely indicating the presence of Awaji Island as the new region explored in this DLC.

Given Ubisoft’s recent challenges in launching successful titles, there is an expectation that Assassin’s Creed Shadows and its first expansion will meet fan hopes following the significant delays. The launch will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
