Here’s why Apple’s iPhone SE 4 is already generating buzz

Perhaps the most impactful update for the iPhone SE lies in its integration of AI technology

Apple is set to release its first iPhone SE in three years, generating considerable anticipation around its hardware and camera upgrades. The new model, expected in early 2025, aims to enhance Apple’s position in the mid-range smartphone market, especially against competitors like the Google Pixel 8a. Key features include an upgraded camera, the latest A18 chip, and advanced capabilities in generative AI.

Apple to launch upgraded iPhone SE with advanced camera and AI

The iPhone SE will showcase a major upgrade in camera technology. Reports from ET News indicate that LG Innotek will supply both the front and rear camera modules. Notably, the rear camera will increase in resolution from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels. This change aims to boost overall image quality, especially in low-light scenarios, supported by Apple’s advancements in image processing. The front-facing camera will also see an upgrade, rising from 7 megapixels to 12 megapixels, and will introduce Night Mode for better performance in dim environments.

Maintaining a competitive price point will be crucial for the iPhone SE, as it serves the budget-conscious segment of Apple’s market. Currently, the iPhone SE retails at $429 for the 64GB variant and $479 for the 128GB model. Expectations suggest that these prices will remain unchanged for the new SE, although storage options may expand to include 128GB and 256GB configurations. Analysts forecast that Apple anticipates shipping around 20 million units upon release, which, while modest compared to total iPhone sales, remains a significant figure among other manufacturers.

Incorporating AI features in iPhone SE

Perhaps the most impactful update for the iPhone SE lies in its integration of AI technology. Apple plans to debut its first-generation Apple Intelligence alongside the SE, with a rollout targeted for early 2025. To facilitate this, the device will feature the A18 Apple Silicon chipset alongside additional memory to manage on-device processing effectively. This enhancement should improve overall smartphone performance, supporting not just AI capabilities but also everyday tasks.

In addition to the sophisticated camera features, the iPhone SE is rumored to include a 6.1-inch OLED display, providing vibrant visuals and improved user experience. Reports suggest the inclusion of Face ID technology, which would mark a significant upgrade from previous models lacking advanced biometric security. Furthermore, users can expect a shift to USB-C for charging and data transfer, in line with current industry standards. The device is also rumored to be the first to utilize Apple’s own 5G modem technology, enhancing connectivity speeds significantly.

As the iPhone SE prepares for launch, its primary competition will likely stem from brands like Google and Samsung, which have established a strong presence in the mid-range segment. The upcoming SE could leverage Apple’s strong brand loyalty and ecosystem integration to capture market share effectively. However, as the release approaches, further updates on pricing, specifications, and market strategy will provide clarity on its competitive edge.
