Google appears to be prepared to offer users of its upcoming Pixel 9 Pro a free one-year membership to Gemini Sophisticated, the company’s most complex AI model, in a move that could dramatically alter the smartphone business. According to recent code analysis, this change indicates a deliberate shift in Google’s approach to distinguishing its flagship smartphone in a more competitive market.
Pixel 9 Pro may be available with Gemini Advanced
Smartphone manufacturers have long sought methods to lure users in with extra features and offerings. Integrating cutting-edge AI capabilities into the smartphone ownership experience is a fresh approach, which Google may deliver with the Pixel 9 Pro in the form of Gemini Advanced.
This strategy is consistent with AI’s growing role in mobile technologies. Google may position the Pixel 9 Pro as a device that not only performs standard smartphone functions but also serves as a gateway to more sophisticated AI interactions and capabilities by offering access to Gemini Advanced.

Decoding the discovery
TheSpAndroid did an investigation of the Google app beta (version 15.28.37.29), which provided information about this prospective service. The code includes a key string that reads:
“Your Pixel Pro gives you access to a 1-year subscription to Gemini Advanced, our most capable AI model with priority access to new features, at no cost to you.”
This snippet strongly suggests that Pixel 9 Pro purchasers may receive a year of Gemini Advanced at no additional cost. Given the typical subscription fee of $20 per month, this is an excellent value offering for potential consumers.
Interestingly, the code analysis indicated a similar, but less thorough, offer that could be planned for the base model Pixel 9:
“Your Pixel may give you access to a 6-month subscription to Gemini Advanced, our most capable AI model with priority access to new features, at no cost to you.”
This indicates Google may be considering a tiered approach, with Pro model buyers receiving more extensive AI benefits.

Implications for users and the industry
The Pixel 9 Pro’s possible integration of Gemini Advanced may have significant effects on consumers and the smartphone market as a whole.
This agreement will give customers a longer period to research and use Google’s most advanced AI features. Beyond basic AI capabilities, Gemini Advanced offers more complex and precise interactions. Furthermore, users who want plenty of space for photos, movies, and other media may find the Gemini Advanced subscription’s 2TB of cloud storage a valuable addition.
While these findings are impressive, they should be approached with caution. Product launch plans can change, and we have seen them change in the past. There is no confirmation from Google at this time.
If successful, however, these approaches could lead to value proposition and product differentiation for smartphone manufacturers. It may become more common to offer advanced AI capabilities as a core feature rather than a bonus. While we await official announcements from Google, the potential product could remedy the dearth of devices in the smartphone industry.
