After months of leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is now official.

Launched alongside its larger sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Flip 6 offers a more compact and affordable entry into the world of foldable phones.

Here’s a comprehensive look into the Galaxy Z Flip 6, covering its features, notable improvements, design, price, and availability.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 specs

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 continues to refine the foldable phone concept with some impressive upgrades over its predecessor.

The device is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.

The primary rear camera has been upgraded to a 50-megapixel sensor, delivering higher resolution and better overall image quality. Durability has also been improved with an IP48 rating, offering better protection against dust and water. The battery capacity has been increased to 4,000mAh, which, combined with software optimizations, aims to offer longer usage times.

The 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen now supports interactive wallpapers and photo ambient features that change based on time and weather.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 cameras

The Flip 6 has a potent set of cameras, though it’s missing the telephoto sensor on the Fold 6 and won’t take shots that are as good as those taken with the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The rear camera consists of a dual sensor setup. The primary sensor is a 50-megapixel camera with dual-pixel autofocus and a 85-degree field of view, which is a big step up from the 12MP sensor from last year. According to Samsung, this should put the primary camera on the Flip 6 on par with the Galaxy S24, though we’ll need to put it through actual testing to see how it measures up.

The secondary sensor is a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 123-degree field of view, the same as before. The selfie camera boasts a 10MP sensor with a 85-degree field of view. Aside from the megapixel bump in the primary sensor, this is largely unchanged from last year’s model, so generally speaking, if you’re looking for a better camera in a foldable, you’ll want to turn your attention to the Z Fold 6, which comes with a triple rear camera array setup.

The Flip 6 also supports Super HDR and Nightography. Improvements to Instagram videos make them appear clearer and bright even in lowlight situations. Finally, there’s the camcorder grip, which lets you record video while the phone is angled.

A new FlexCam is powered by Galaxy AI with the ProVisual Engine. Samsung is also introducing AI-powered Portrait Mode, which uses AI to clear outlines and create authentic facial expressions and natural bokeh.

Finally, there’s Auto Zoom, where the phone will detect a subject and automatically zoom in to capture the best angle.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 design and display

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 retains the iconic clamshell design that made its predecessors popular but comes with slight refinements.

When folded, it measures 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9mm, and when unfolded, it stretches to 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9mm.

Despite these changes, it maintains the same weight as the Flip 5 at 187 grams. The device is available in vibrant shades like Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue, and Mint, with exclusive colors such as Crafted Black, White, and Peach available directly from Samsung.

The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display offers Full HD+ resolution (2640 x 1080 pixels) and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals and responsive touch interactions.

The 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen features a 720 x 748 resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate, providing quick access to notifications and other functionalities without unfolding the phone.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 price and availablity

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is competitively priced at $1,100, reflecting a $100 increase over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

This makes it a more affordable option compared to the Fold 6, which is priced at $1,900. The price increase is largely driven by the higher costs associated with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

Preorders for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 begin on July 10, with regular sales starting on July 24.

You can purchase the phone from Samsung’s website, as well as from major retailers like Amazon, and Best Buy, and carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Samsung is also offering promotions, including 12 months of free Samsung Care+ for carrier version preorders and up to a $1,000 credit for trading in your old phone if you preorder by July 23.
