Crazy Taxi, the game we used to play in those unforgettable and wonderful childhood times, is returning as an open-world game with the new Crazy Taxi reboot! This is one of the best news I’ve heard today.
While playing Crazy Taxi, developed by Sega, we collected coins using acrobatics to avoid hitting pedestrians while speeding through the city streets. You might remember it, too. Now get ready! Sega is reintroducing the game as part of the new Crazy Taxi reboot. And it’s open-world.
New Crazy Taxi reboot: Get ready to travel back to your childhood
The exciting news hit the internet just after a developer interview with gameplay footage and information from the Sega team was posted on YouTube. Series producer Kenji Kanno revealed that the game will be an MMO and retain the atmosphere of the old Crazy Taxi game with online multiplayer mechanics. You can watch the YouTube video below:
The new Crazy Taxi will not have a top-down perspective like the old game. Instead, it will welcome us with an open world like today’s GTA. The developers describe the game’s map as an energetic California full of vibrant colors.
There will be a multiplayer mode for the first time in the series. Sega promises to blend the series’ signature high-speed driving with online mechanics. This includes experimenting with features such as online co-op and full-fledged MMO elements. One confirmed multiplayer mode pits players against each other as cops and robbers.
While the game’s core concept is exciting, the details are still mysterious. No announcement has been made about which platforms it will be released on and the official release date.
On the other hand, Sega aims to re-release many forgotten series such as Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage. If you ask me if Crazy Taxi will affect the sales of GTA, I don’t think it will. Crazy Taxi fans who bought GTA will give both games a chance.
Time will tell how successful the open-world MMO approach will be in the reboot of New Crazy Taxi. Will it capture the frenetic energy and fast pace of the originals? Will the online competitive experience be exciting or disappointing? One thing is for sure: this reboot promises a crazy ride for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
