Just one month after leaving OpenAI, Ilya Sutskever announced the founding of Safe Superintelligence Inc (SSI). Other founders include Daniel Gross, a former partner at Y Combinator, and Daniel Levy, a former engineer at OpenAI.

Last month, we shared with you the departure of OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever from OpenAI, which caused a stir on social media and the tech world.

Sutskever stated that his new project was meaningful for him and promised to share the details. Those highly anticipated details are finally coming to light. Here are all the details.

Why did Ilya Sutskever founded Safe Superintelligence (SSI)?

Sutskever was among the board members who voted to oust OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last November due to communication and trust issues. Therefore, these issues at OpenAI may have played an important role in his decision to leave the company. As a result, Sutskever now has Safe Superintelligence.

In a post on the X platform, Safe Superintelligence Inc. stated that it aims to “approach security and capabilities together as technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs.”

Superintelligence is within reach.

Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is the most important technical problem of our time.

We've started the world’s first straight-shot SSI lab, with one goal and one product: a safe superintelligence.

It’s called Safe Superintelligence…

However, the company says its sole focus means it is not distracted by management overhead or product cycles and that its business model is one in which safety, security, and progress are free from short-term commercial pressures.

Safe Superintelligence has offices in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv. However, the company has not announced investors or details about its business model. Given that OpenAI started as a nonprofit and later turned into a for-profit subsidiary, Safe Superintelligence’s approach to funding remains to be seen. Still, Daniel Gross stated in an interview with Bloomberg that Safe Superintelligence has no concerns about raising capital.

Safe Superintelligence Inc., the new company of former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever focused on developing “safe superintelligence“, is creating excitement in the world of artificial intelligence. The company’s future work and steps towards achieving the goal of “safe superintelligence” will be closely monitored.
