Did you see the news about iPhone 5s obsolete? Yeah, it’s true… Technology giant Apple has completely terminated hardware support for the iPhone 5s model, which was released in September 2013 and left its mark on an era. Apple categorizes it as an “old” product.

Let’s go back to the old days. I remember my friends who had iPhone 5s phones. The phone was so robust that I witnessed it being dropped at least 100 times, and nothing happened to the case. Nowadays, it is sad that devices that do not receive software support no longer receive hardware support. We can say that nothing can be done with the iPhone 5s anymore. In short, it’s time to shelve it.

iPhone 5s obsolete: No hardware support anymore

We don’t need to say that the iPhone 5s has groundbreaking features and technologies for its era. It was the first smartphone to use the Apple A7 processor and introduced the Touch ID fingerprint reader to iPhones for the first time. In 2018, it received its last update, iOS 12.

Apple’s decision came almost 11 years after the iPhone 5s was released. Apple’s old (albeit annoying) policy categorizes products that have been discontinued for seven years or more as “obsolete” and terminates hardware support. I find this part of Apple’s policy absurd because a working device is rendered inoperable because they withdrew support. If you remember, they’ve had to face lawsuits and pay compensation to their users before. It seems that the company will never give up this method.

The company is ending support for the iPhone 5s and adding the 6th generation iPod Touch and the 2015 21.5-inch iMac to the “legacy” products category. So, if you own one of these products, you will no longer receive hardware support.

If you still use one of the above devices, Apple encourages you to buy a new one. Because of this inconvenience, Apple may be losing many iPhone users.
