Microsoft is preparing to drop an artificial intelligence-focused bombshell on the technology world with its Build 2024 conference starting tomorrow.

Microsoft looks set to shape future technology with next-generation Surface devices, a smarter Windows experience, and boundary-pushing Copilot features.

So, what should we expect from the Microsoft Build 2024 event? Here’s what we know…

Microsoft Build 2024: What to expect

Microsoft seems assertive on the hardware front at Build 2024. The new Surface Laptop 6 models, which attract attention with their thin bezels, wide trackpads, and advanced ports, seem to break new ground in performance thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip.

Following the Surface Pro introduced in March, the new Surface Pro 10 will stand out with its Arm-based processor and upgraded accessories. Microsoft believes this model will surpass Apple’s M3 MacBook Air speed and AI performance.

Copilot is now smarter

Microsoft is moving forward with the vision of integrating its AI-powered assistant, Copilot, into its entire ecosystem. This journey started with GitHub Copilot and continued with Bing Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Copilot is now equipped with new capabilities like working offline and faster processing.

Intel confirmed this development, allowing Copilot to perform simple tasks like basic math operations or file queries faster without an internet connection.

Windows AI Explorer is everywhere

Microsoft’s AI push is not limited to hardware. With the power of the Snapdragon X Elite chip, Windows will have a new generation of AI and machine learning capabilities. Dubbed Windows AI Explorer, this new era includes an advanced search tool with natural language processing, a timeline that makes navigating past events easier, and an intelligent assistant that provides contextual recommendations.

Microsoft will also build on existing Copilot features to offer innovative tools such as live captions, real-time filters, and on-the-spot photo creation.

A new era for developers

Microsoft Build 2024 also opens new horizons for developers. The conference will offer various tools and resources for building apps that utilize new AI features and expanded Copilot functionality. Innovations like Copilot on Edge and Copilot Add-ons for 365 apps will open up new opportunities for developers to get creative.

When will Microsoft Build 2024 happen?

Microsoft Build 2024 officially kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and runs through Thursday, May 23. You can watch the event live on YouTube by following the YouTube livestream below.
