Google I/O rumors and, of course, the event itself are on their way to becoming one of the biggest events the tech world looks forward to. We are eagerly waiting to see what Google will present at this year’s conference, which will keep its finger on the pulse of innovation.
Tech enthusiasts are aware of how active the industry has been lately. Yesterday, OpenAI introduced GPT-4o, an artificial intelligence model on the agenda—not only GPT-4o but also the ChatGPT desktop application for Mac computers. In the meantime, you can check out everything else that was introduced at the OpenAI Spring Update event here. It is also likely that Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, will unveil a GPT-4o competitor at the event.
With so much going on, in addition to the expected big announcements, a few surprises likely to appear at the event will excite tech enthusiasts.
Before sharing what will be introduced at the event, Google emphasizes its strategy to spread its AI-powered features across its entire product portfolio. The Circle to Search collaboration with Samsung is important in bringing these features to the Galaxy S24 series. Here are the features we expect to be introduced at the event.
Google I/O rumors: Everything expected to be unveiled at the event
Below, you can see the Pixel 8a, Pixel Fold 2, Android 15, Google, Android TV updates, and innovations in other technologies.
Pixel 8a
The tech giant has previously introduced the A, affordable Pixel series at Google I/O events. Following the Pixel 7a introduced last year, the Pixel 8a is expected to take the stage this year.
According to leaked information, Pixel 8a will feature a Tensor G3 chipset, screen refresh rate, and brightness increase. Artificial intelligence-supported features are expected to be shared at the event.
Pixel Fold 2
Following the Pixel Fold, Google’s first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold 2 could come with 360-degree video capture and a slim design. There’s also a rumor floating around that the company could integrate the Pixel Fold line into the Pixel 9 lineup and release it as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Android 15
Android fans, are you here? Another novelty at the event will be Android 15. The new version, codenamed Vanilla Ice Cream, does not bring many innovations compared to previous versions. We previously shared that Android 15 automatically switches all applications to dark mode. We will learn the details of the new version at the event.
Google and Android TV updates
Google and Android TV are bringing new user experience enhancements, and these two platforms will be significantly present at the event.
Are next-generation technologies around the corner?
While we don’t expect to see the full version of the Pixel Tablet 2, we shouldn’t rule out the possibility that Google will offer a first look. Google unveiled the first Pixel Tablet a year before its release. However, since this was a first-generation device, there’s a good chance that the strategy for the second generation will be different.
Given that Wear OS 5 will play a central role in Google I/O, it’s also possible that Google is hinting at its plans for the Pixel Watch 3. Since previous versions were unveiled at the fall hardware event, it may be unrealistic to expect a major breakthrough.
Google uses I/O to showcase innovations in its popular products. New AI-powered features for products like Google Maps and Google Home are likely to be announced.
While Apple’s Vision Pro didn’t revolutionize the market, it certainly increased interest in mixed-reality products. Google is also expected to make a move in this area. While it is too early to announce a mixed-reality headset or Android XR platform at Google I/O 2024, it is possible that we will see signs of developments in AR and VR in response to Apple’s Vision Pro.
When will Google I/O 2024 take place?
Google I/O 2024 will take place today, May 14. The official website has detailed information.
Google I/O 2024 is a candidate to be an event where innovations that will shape the world of technology will take the stage. Once again, Google is preparing to prove its strength in artificial intelligence, software, and hardware. But the real question is: Will Google live up to expectations or stun everyone with surprises?
