  • Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update reintroduces important screen burn-in protection features that were surprisingly lost in the previous version
  • These features, such as pixel shifting and automatic brightness adjustment, work to prevent screen burn-in proactively
  • Users can protect their OLED displays and ensure a longer screen life by updating eligible devices to One UI 6.1

Samsung’s flagship smartphones with OLED displays dazzle with their vibrant colors, but one drawback of OLED displays is the risk of the screen catching fire (getting too hot).

The problem can also cause static images to remain on the screen for long periods of time and cause permanent color distortion.

Samsung is taking various measures in the One UI interface to solve the problem. These measures, which were available until One UI 5, included options such as pixel shifting and adjusting screen brightness.

However, the mysterious removal of these measures in the One UI 6.0 update that came with Android 14 worried users. Fortunately, Samsung is bringing back these important features with the One UI 6.1 update.

Here are the features that prevent screen burn-in with One UI 6.1:

  • Pixel scrolling: Status bar icons and other static elements are shifted by a few pixels at regular intervals, preventing a static image.
  • Screen Brightness adjustment: Screen brightness automatically adjusts according to ambient light, reducing the risk of screen burn-in caused by excessive brightness.
  • Screen Saver mode: Screen saver mode automatically turns on when the screen is not in use, minimizing the risk of screen burn-in.

The One UI 6.1 update is currently available for the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and other eligible devices. By updating, you can extend the life of your display and enjoy vibrant colors for many years to come.
